What does FSC mean?

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is a non-profit organization that provides proven sustainable forest management solutions. In 1992 the Eco Summit in Rio failed to produce an agreement to stop deforestation, and the FSC was born. The Council is a group of businesses, environmentalists, and community leaders who saw a need for change and developed a voluntary, market-based approach that would improve forestry practices. They offer the rigorous certification that is FSC Certification. By bringing together experts and adhering to standard practices that have provided 25+ years of sustainable forest management and successfully promote the responsible management of the world’s forests.

FSC forest management certification confirms that the forest is being managed in a way that preserves biological diversity and benefits the lives of local people and workers while ensuring it sustains economic viability. – FSC

Impact Of Deforestation

A 2021 study by GlobeScan found biodiversity loss and deforestation are growing concerns for many consumers. Additionally, they found consumers trust that FSC effectively protects forests, with seven in ten shoppers feeling motivated to buy products that show the FSC label.

Today, utilizing responsibly sourced timber and wooden products from FSC-certified forests is an easy decision for mindful brands. So, when we offer products with the FSC Certification, you can be confident the products will be an environmentally friendly alternative to noncertified materials. Maintaining the health of forests contributes to air quality, wildlife habitat, and even the prevention of soil erosion. It is in our best interest to care for what forests we have left. Forests provide a renewable resource and a carbon storage system – if we nurture and treat our forests with respect, they will last generations.

Consumer insights are crucial to help FSC focus on the priorities. These findings inspire confidence that consumers appreciate the vital role forests play in tackling major sustainable development challenges and that consumers recognize and trust FSC as part of the solution.
