Changemaker Series with Val Bisharat

Welcome to episode 17 of the Fairware Changemaker Series, where we highlight entrepreneurs and thought leaders that continuously inspire us through their passion for using business to better the world.

On this episode, we feature Val Bisharat from the community team at Clif Bar, who leads the IGood Company program.

What is In Good Company?

In Good Company works on projects to create healthy food systems, environmental restoration, and rebuilding after natural disasters. We started the program after Hurricane Katrina, in response to it. We sent Clif bar employees down to New Orleans to help rebuild the houses that had been destroyed. When we came back, we realized that our work would be so much more impactful if we invited other companies to join us

The main thing we do is move people from good intention into action. We want to build awareness about a certain issue in a certain community, so we work with non-profits to determine solutions to these specific challenges. And more importantly, we move people together to collaborate for good.

What does being a changemaker mean to you?

Being a change maker is baked into everything they do at Clif Bar. They have a five-aspiration model, meaning sustaining businesses, brands, people, community and the planet. All their decisions and interactions take these five things into consideration.
